Team Member Spotlight - Samantha Brear
We sat down with one of our Project Managers, Samantha Brear, today to chat about her experience and goals at RapidDeploy. Samantha has over ten years of experience in public safety. She started off her career in emergency management and volunteering for the American Red Cross. Her first role in 9-1-1 was being the project manager for three 9-1-1 centers within Iowa, as well as being a local emergency manager. From there she moved to the State of Iowa, followed by the State of Utah where she specialized in statewide Next Generation 911 upgrades, mass notification implementations and emergency management response. She has a Master’s degree in Emergency Management and is a NENA Emergency Number Professional (ENP).
Q: What drew you to RapidDeploy?
A: Two things. First, the cultural diversity of the company. I love that the team is from different parts of the globe and we all have such diverse backgrounds and yet we are all coming together for the same common goal. Second was the dinosaur video, if you haven’t seen it, you need too!
Q: What was your background before RapidDeploy?
A: I started my career in emergency management and 911 communications. I have been in local and state government most of my career. Being a Project Manager for RapidDeploy is my first full time private sector role in the public safety space. Having my government experience has really benefited my role as a PM.
Q: What is your favorite part about working at RapidDeploy?
A: Disrupting the 911 space in a positive way is really exciting to me. We are bringing change that was long overdue in the 911 market. Being able to install and deploy services that brings so many benefits to a PSAPs 911 operations and the lives that they are saving, in a matter of hours and at a much lower cost than government is used to is exciting.
Q: How would you describe the team culture at RapidDeploy?
A: As cliché as it sounds, we really are like a family here at RapidDeploy. The sense of pride that we all have to change and enhance 911 operations across the world really brings us together. Being able to have fun in a very serious field is also critical and we certainly know how to have fun here!
Q: Where would you like to see RapidDeploy going in the next few years?
A: Cloud based technologies are still very new in public safety, especially 911. The more people learn about the benefits, the more people are going to want to be part of the disruption. We have some incredible early adopter clients who are now part of the RapidDeploy family and through word of mouth alone, I know we will be growing substantially.
Q: What are your passions?
A: I am so passionate about 911 and emergency management, otherwise I wouldn’t be doing what I am doing, but my other passions are going backcountry hiking and camping with my husband and German Shepherd Opie, and of course supporting my husband in his 14 year Army career that will be going on for many more years to come!
